Liu Qinghe @ The Opposite House, Beijing

The Opposite House in Beijing is showcasing in his atrium Piao (Floating), an exhibit by artist Liu Qinghe, where he has refashioned his landmark installation Suzhou Time Waves.

The sculptural scene depicts a pond life landscape contrasting the contemporary state of China with the simple and idealistic pleasures of life in the country-side where friends idly gather around a swimming lake. Liu’s work is a commentary reflecting on the urbanisation of China, the pulsing practical problems caused by urbanisation and the intangible loss of traditions, routines and customs. He views today’s new tradition as one of anxiety – a lack of clarity in the urban cityscape that changes so rapidly that even the newest generation cannot keep up.
