News - Behind the Ullens sale at Sotheby's

The Art Newspaper is running a very interesting interview with Chinese collector Guy Ullens stating that his dream of running a Chinese art museum is over and that he's looking to hand over the management of his UCCA gallery in Beijing to “long-term partners” and divest himself of the institution. He indicated that the Apr 3 sale at Sotheby's Hong Kong will just be the first of many. Once he has done this, he says he intends to spend more time on his charitable education work in Nepal and return to collecting young artists, with his focus now on Indian rather than Chinese artists.

Jung Woo Sung Inspired by Alain Delon

South Korean actor Jung Woo Sung says he was primarily inspired by Alain Delon ’s performance in “The Samurai,” a 1967 film by Jean-Pierre Melville, when preparing for his first role as a villain in the recently released South Korean movie “Cold Eyes.” Jung plays James, the cold-hearted leader of an armed criminal organization, while Delon was a hired assassin in “The Samurai.”

”From my world to yours” is a new exhibition by Japanese born, NY based artist and illustrator Yoko Furusho. This young artist has already had a few shows and I love the details and fantasy of her ink and acrylic. Inspired by Alice in the Wonderland, one of her favourite stories, she composes her own wonderland, re-interpreting the classic story with a distinctive style. There is all sort of merchandising which lend themselves well to this type of art-cum-illustration, from a T-shirt to a tote bag - perfect little gifts for art lovers.

Joseph Wright of Derby (1734–1797) may not enjoy the name recognition of the Old Masters he admired, yet his vision was no less daring.
