Filipino artist Bembol Dela Cruz presents his first solo show outside Manila, Badged, at Artesan Gallery + Studio. His concept: art reflecting on art, with a narrative that carves life out of the surface of canvas and skin.
The artist paint his portraits from a completely different angle, altering the view to highlight his subjects’ tattoos. There is a sense of pride emanating from the figures as they proudly display their skin art, as badges of their individuality. But along with the distinction they receive, comes the threat of becoming labeled as well. Very good technique and interesting point of view.
