Auction - Asia art evening sale in Singapore May 2

33 Auction will hold its Spring Modern and Contemporary Asian Art Evening sale on May 2 at The Regent Singapore, with more than 85 works by prominent artists with a total estimate in excess of S$4 million. Usual suspect list includes: I Nyoman Masriadi, a beautiful Hendra Gunawan, Affandi, Lee Man Fong (whose Bali Life just sold in HK for a world record for any Southeast Asian painting). China is represented by Zhou Chunya, Wu Mingzhong, Xiang Jing and Guo Jin amongst others. One work which caught my eye is Ronald Ventura's Profile. Ventura is arguably one of the leading contemporary artists out of the Philippines right now. This is the first time one of his painting and sculpture assemblages has appeared at auction. The work is a continuation of his body of work of mapping the corporeal as seen in his previous solo exhibition held in the NUS Museum, Singapore in 2008. Nine mixing plates are reinvented by the artist as canvasses, set against a grooved black wall with a veined sculpture affixed at the center.
