Alex Shou @ Art Beatus Gallery in Hong Kong

The oil paintings of Alex Shou are as much about capturing a mood and atmosphere as they are about recording actual imageries.
I actually first thought his paintings were old photographs.. And there is certainly a tone of romantic nostalgie in many of his works, as the artist aims to bring back to live bygone years.

Shou was born in 1980 and graduated from the Fine Art Department of Shanghai University in 2003, before studing oil painting at Melbourne University.

Working within the grey scale and with a tint of brown colour, Shou’s depictions are mostly about rainy days. The weather and the shades of grey fit well in evoking old memories taking viewers on an emotional trip.

“Will It Still Rain Tomorrow?” runs until the end of the month.
