Apainting by lyrical abstrationist master Chu The-Chun's Inspiration Hivernale topped the results of Sotheby's 20th Century Chinese artist, bringing in $3.6 million. The afternoon sale brought in $30 million, doubling the pre-sale estimate . Amongst the highlights were Pins Landais by Zhao Wou-ki, which fetched $2.9 million and 4.1.62, also by Zhao Wou-ki ($1.8 million); Amitie by Chen Yifei, which fetched $2.23 . The intimate portayal of two young girls wearing a close fitting qiapao was rendered in the artist's classic sfumato technique giving the painting a dreamlike quality.
