Auction result - Sotheby's Jewelry sale disappoints

Sotheby's jewelly sales was a bit of a disappointement. It raises $53.5 million, the second highest jewellery sale total ever for hte company in Asia. Still, only 78.4 percent of the lots were sold, and 74.2 percent were sold by value...! High colour white diamonds continue to sell well, resulting in good prices for a 25.50-carat Brilliant-Cut Unmounted D-Colour Flawless Diamond and for A Pair of DIF Diamond Pendant Earrings, totalling 36.48 carats by Harry Winston (though they sold within or just a touch above their estimates). A 27.67-carat Burmese Ruby Cabochon and Diamond Ring, Bulgari, sold for $2.24 million, while a rare 23.19-carat Brazilian Cat’s-eye Alexandrite, Alexandrite and Diamond Ring fetched $1.52 million (both also within their estimate)
