It’s the turn of Borobudur, which will held its spring auction in Singapore May 15-16. There are five paintings from Agus Suwage, including I Suck Therefore I Am (2004). Since the mid-1990s Agus Suwage has developed a series of self-portraits depicting the many ironies in our social environment and consumer culture. Although his self-portraits avoid any sort of reference to himself in concrete terms, his works often imply self-derision, but then again, isn't the entire mess of an individual's life the reflection of what is going on around him? In his painting, Suwage plays on the famous philosophical statement "Cogito, ergo sum" ("I think, therefore I am"). To know more about this artist, read this
