One East Larasati to auction Jan 26 in Singapore

One East Larasati will kick off the Asian auction calendar this year with a small sale of just 33 selected Asian art works with a total pre-sale estimate of S$1.5-S$2.0 million. The auction will be held at the Marina Bay Financial Centre on January 26, taking advantage of the influx of collectors coming into town that week for Art Stage Singapore.

Daniel Komala, managing director of One East Larasati said that since contemporary art works will dominate the offering at Art Stage, the auction house had decided to focus on Southeast Asian modern masters. "In view of what happened last January, we have decided not to include recent contemporary works so that what we offer would complement those contemporary works being exhibited at Art Stage," Komala said, referring to the unhappiness expressed last year by many galleries about timing of the Larasati auction which they felt competed with them directly for collector's attention.

Among the highlights of the auction is a striking oil on canvas by Antonio Blanco titled Balinese Dancer with Meditating Lord Ardjuna, circa 1963 (estimate: S$ 150,000 – 220,000).

Larasati will be previewing the works Jan 24-25 at the Marina Bay Suites Sales Gallery, which is close to the Art Stage venue at the Marina Bay Sands.
