The afternoon of September 13 will be devoted to the classical works of Indian and Southeast Asian Art at Christie's NY auction. Several notable collections will be featured in the sale, including The Burkhart Collection, as well as Property from the Dr. David Nalin Collection, which has a large focus on stone and stucco sculpture from the Gandharan region.

Christie's NY will auction a collection of superb jade carvings by a European collector on Sep 15.
Leading the sale is a very rare white jade archaistic vase and cover, Qianlong/Jiaqing period (1736-1820). The vase is carved from fine stone of even white tone and exhibits an unusual shape, as well as a bold combination of low and high relief carving.

Christies will present its Fall Sale of Japanese and Korean Art on Sep 14. The Japanese section of the sale will feature Inro from the Collection from the Estate Catherine H. Edson, paintings, lacquer wares, and furniture, while the Korean portion includes fine porcelains, as well as traditional and modern paintings by Korean masters. The sale is expected to realize in excess of $9 million.

Christie's New York has announced the details of its sales for Asian Art Week from September 13-16. The six sales will span a spectrum of collecting categories – from classical Japanese and Korean art, to works from South Asian modern masters and cutting-edge contemporary works, as well as Chinese paintings, ceramics and works of art. The sales features over 1,300 lots and are expected to realize in excess of $50 million in total.
The week will start with South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art on September 13.

Hot Filipino artist Ronald Ventura is having his second solo show at Tyler Rollins Fine Art in New York, opening Sep 8. Entitled A Thousand Islands, the show will feature a new series of paintings and sculptures based on a floating island motif.
Christie’s New York will auction The Vivid Yellow, a rare, highly saturated fancy vivid yellow diamond of 32.77 carats, as the star lot of its October 18 sale of Magnificent Jewels. The golden yellow hue of this large pear-shaped stone is so intense and so deep that the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) ranks it amongst the rarest of gemstones in its class. The stone is expected to achieve in excess of US$6 million.
Four years in the making, with action choreography from Sammo Hung, My Kingdom is the new Chinese blockbuster that brings together the world of martial art and Chinese Opera with refreshingly new fight scenes.

James Cohan Gallery will present DANDAN, a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Tabaimo opening September 15th and running through October 29th. This is the third solo exhibition at the gallery by the 35-year old Japanese artist, who is becoming well-known for her hand-drawn animations whose coloration bring to mind traditional ukiyo-e prints.

Last year’s edition of the Affordable Art Fair in Singapore raked in S$1.75 million with 9,500 visitors, making it the most successful first-time affordable art fair ever. Not bad when the average art price for works bought was S$2,000. This year it’s returning on Nov 18-20 at the F1 Pit Building with an even greater number of galleries (70 vs 50 last year)
A sheet of Chinese stamps commemorating the 1980 year of the monkey sold for HK$1.3 million at auction on Sunday, a new record. The stamps show a black monkey on a dark red background and have become highly collectable (as a sheet) because of the auspicious color for Chinese culture. The stamp was also released in 1980, a particularly lucky “Golden Monkey” year that only occurs every 60 years.
Turner Prize winner Richard Deacon will have a permanent wooden sculpture in the upcoming Louis Vuitton's Island Maison at the MBS, due to open on Sep 18. The well-known British sculptor is also doing a residency at the Singapore Tyle Print Institute right now, which should prove quite interesting

Last October, French jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels launched during the Biennale des Antiquaires Les Voyages Extraordinaires de Jules Verne, a new collection inspired by the celebrated science-fiction writer. Not all the pieces were ready though with many still under production. Some pieces that have just come out of production, plus some existing pieces that were showcased at the biannale are now on show in Singapore until August 15, before moving to Kuala Lumpur from August 19th.
