Sheet of black monkey stamps set new record at Zurich Asia

A sheet of Chinese stamps commemorating the 1980 year of the monkey sold for HK$1.3 million at auction on Sunday, a new record. The stamps show a black monkey on a dark red background and have become highly collectable (as a sheet) because of the auspicious color for Chinese culture. The stamp was also released in 1980, a particularly lucky “Golden Monkey” year that only occurs every 60 years.
